Roll up, roll up for a world of high-flying hoopla as Circus City takes over Prince Alfred Square.

Swing by Parramatta’s Prince Alfred Square on 11 January to help us celebrate the opening of Circus City and the Big Top with an evening of free entertainment, from live music to performances and workshops where you can test out your circus skills.

Join in! Below is detailed schedule of what will be on at Circus Comes to Town.

All evening:

The Circus Playground

Come and try your hand at hula hooping, juggling, stilts, unicycles, balancing beams, spinning plates and a whole host of other circus fun. An entertaining team of skilled instructors will be on hand to help you out.

Beeswax and Bottlecaps Roving

The zany characters from Beeswax and Bottlecaps are moving in! From stilt walkers and jugglers to acrobats who ride penny-farthing bikes, the park will come alive with a variety of larger-than-life personalities!

Sausage Sizzle

Working up an appetite? There’s a free sausage sizzle from 5.30pm – first come, first served!

MC Kate Wright

Powerhouse performer Kate Wright Dynamite will be the evening’s host, making sure you don’t miss any of the action happening around the park.

Featuring:

Aerial artists suspended from a crane
5.30pm – 5.45pm
7.45pm – 8pm

Look up! Captain Ruin from Circus Oz will attempt a straight-jacket escape while suspended from a 20m high crane. This incredible and dangerous stunt is only performed by a handful of artists in the world and it’s going to happen right here, at Circus City. Later in the evening the incredible Elli Huber will take to the sky on her aerial silk.

Hot Potato Band

Anything could happen! Known to cause a severe case of happy fever, this 10-piece roving brass band is sure to put a smile on your face with their unique live show. The Hot Potato Band has become one of the most celebrated festival bands in Australia, bringingan Australian edge to its multi-genre music, influenced by ska, blues, funk, pop, reggae, Afro-Cuban and folk, as well as the classic brass band sounds of New Orleans.

Flying Trapeze Performances

Sydney Trapeze School will swing and soar on a 10-metre high trapeze rig! Watch these daredevils flip, fly, throw and catch each other in a gravity-defying display. Like what you see? You can have a go at one of their Flying Trapeze Workshops.

Aerialize drop-in workshops
Every 15 mins from 6.30–8.30pm

Ahead of their takeover of the Courtyard at Riverside Theatres, Aerialize will set up their outdoor rig for Circus Comes to Town! After a quick warm-up you’ll learn a trick on the trapeze or lyra, guided by Aerialize’s expert trainers.

Highly Sprung
6pm show followed by free jumping on the trampolines

Legs On The Wall bring their multi-level, outdoor trampoline playground to Circus City with Highly Sprung. Free performances of sky-high storytelling by these acrobat experts are followed by audience bounce-offs, where you get the chance to leap and bound.

Highly Sprung is a spectacle of trampolining expertise, as four performers mix theatre, dance, parkour, tramp and street art in a jumping, spinning, flying and falling story about overcoming everyday hurdles.
After the show, you’re invited to kick off your shoes and have a bounce, aided by Legs On The Wall’s trained performers.
