As the divide between rich and poor deepens worldwide, photo and video artists such as Andres Serrano, Alejandro Cartagena and Sim Chi Yin tackle themes of inequality, poverty and the displacement of people across many corners of the globe.

In Your Dreams brings together works from Bangladesh, China, France, Jordan, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa and the USA, and challenges the viewer to acknowledge people and communities relegated to the “too-hard basket” by their politicians and mainstream news.

Tackling their subject matter with tremendous insight and empathy, these artists are focused on providing a forum for some of the world’s grand challenges, and putting faces to faceless “problems”.

American Andres Serrano’s portraits from New York and Brussels put faces and names to those cities’ homeless; Jordan’s Tanya Habjouqa captures the simple pleasures, resilience and dignity of Syrian refugees; Singaporean artist Sim Chi Yin reveals the impact of ecological devastation wrought by the mining industry in Indonesia; and French artist Samuel Gratacap takes us on a confronting tour of a sand-swept refugee camp in Tunisia. Together, the artists’ work captures the reality of a world infected by exploitation, disadvantage and inequality.
