Two US singer/songwriters that find heartbreaking beauty in unlikely, often contradictory places. When singer/songwriter Phil Elverum (Mount Eerie) lost his wife, artist Geneviève Castrée, to cancer, he poured his grief into the beautiful and devastating A Crow Looked At Me.
With hushed vocals and gently picked guitars, his songs offer a painfully raw and diary-like exploration of what it means to keep living after such a tragedy.
Elverum is joined by NYC’s Julie Byrne, whose late-night fingerpicked folk music evokes a similar intimacy and power, showcased in the haunting melodies and personal lyrics of her acclaimed 2017 album Not Even Happiness.
Together, they offer an evening of minimalist, melancholic beauty.
