18 JANUARY AT 8PM
In 1988 The Go-Betweens released their sixth album, the exquisite 16 Lovers Lane, the final of their classic era. It contained some of their most beloved and enduring songs including Streets of Your Town and Clouds, but the quintet’s split the following year meant that the album has never been played in its entirety.
With the blessing of guitarist/singer Robert Forster, this 30th anniversary reimagining of 16 Lovers Lane sees the album’s co-creators – drummer Lindy Morrison, guitarist/bassist John Willsteed, and multi-instrumentalist Amanda Brown – perform the album in full, complete with b-sides. To bring this much-loved collection of songs to life, the band is completed by Dan Kelly, Danny Widdicombe and Luke Daniel Peacock, plus an all-star line-up of guest vocalists.
Joining the acclaimed ensemble are The Church’s Steve Kilbey, The Preatures’ Izzi Manfredi, The Clouds’ Jodi & Trish, Royal Headaches’ Shogun, The Reels’ Dave Mason, The Blackeyed Susans’ Rob Snarski, The Apartments’ Peter Milton Walsh, Kirin J Callinan and RVG’s Romy Vager.
“One of the most literary albums ever made by an Australian band. Pull apart any of the lyrics and you have lines that could stand alone as poetry” The Guardian
A concert version of 16 Lovers Lane was performed in Brisbane as part of Queensland Music Festival in 2017.
