The 2018 National Youth Circus Symposium is nestled comfortably within Sydney Festival’s Circus City, offering an amazing opportunity for young and emerging circus artists, circus trainers, company staff and management to come together.

We will discuss the important issues of our industry with a focus on ‘Building Circus of the Future’, and also see shows, locate ourselves within the broader community and demonstrate what a vital, vibrant sector of the circus world we are. Have your ideas heard, January 16–18, 2018, at Parramatta in Sydney.

Program Sessions

Making and interpreting: What is the modern circus and how do we create environments for our young people to thrive? This session will be run by Joshua Hoare (AD at SA Circus Centre and Cirkidz) and involves provocation, discussion and action, building towards later sessions in the Symposium.

Who’s in the room: Share, question, provoke, or follow-up that conversation you never finished. A casual environment to meet, discuss and put into action, with all the exciting delegates in the room.

Australian Youth Circus and Action for Reconciliation: An action-focused session around non-Indigenous organisational responsibilities and actions towards reconciliation.

Training youth circus for the future: A rigorous discussion and look into techniques, methodologies and language around training young artists for the circus of the future.

Women’s business: Following up from the gathering of women at the 2017 National Training Project, this is a circle gathering for all women. A time for discussion and the sharing of matters that are important for us in our sector.

Who I am: A chance for artists, trainers, creatives, and circus visionaries to seek new opportunities in the sector. A mini arts market to propose, talk and discuss future collaborations, ideas, offer your teaching experience, explore an exchange or show off your show reel.
